Accessing VPLS network from LAYER 3 VPN network

 Running VPLS connection among 4 sites and separately  10 Layer 3 VPN connections over the same MPLS backbone.

Looking for a solution to allow access to servers in the VPLS domain from the layer 3 VPN domain.

Hello Akoly,

you need to add L3 intelligence to the VPLS using IRB integrated routing and bridging, in this way you can add a BVI interface that can be made member of a L3 VRF for example a central site VRF importing the route targets of multiple L3 VPNs and you should be fine.

What platform are you using? On ASR9000 you just need to look for IRB and VPLS see.

under the bridge-domain hierarchy you use the

routed-interface bvi xxx

command to link the BVI to the VPLS on the node.

Currently we are designing a deployment that requires IPv6 Multicast, however this is not supported on Multicats IRB/BVI

Multicast IRB provides the ability to route multicast packets between a bridge group and a routed interface using a bridge-group virtual interface (BVI). 

Restrictions

• Supported only on Ethernet line cards and enhanced ethernet line cards.

• Support only for IPv4
• Supports IGMP snooping

Any alternatives?
