How to capture ethernet Frames with Ethertype 0x8847 & 0x8848 on ISR

Hi dear community,

According to you, what is the best way to capture MPLS traffic flowing between two ISR ?

Does EPC  provide a way to do so from the router itself ?

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/ios-nx-os-software/ios-embedded-packet-capture/116045-productconfig-epc-00.html

Does a switch in between, with port mirroring enabled, mandatory ?

Best Regards,

Jerems

Port mirror not need embedded packet capture'

The command list "mirror" but that not meaning port mirror.

Do EPC and I will check my notes about other way to capture mpls without using wireshark.

Can I know what is ISR platform you have excatly

MHM

I know that Port mirror is not mandatory as ECP is a different embedded feature on Cisco ISR. Anyway, It looks like ECP only works with IPv4/v6 payload.

My post aimed to mention the different ways to capture MPLS packets . First one could be ECP and the second one is to perform a simple port mirroring (from a switch connected to the ISR "targeted interface".

Ok  understood.

You can use

Debug platfrom packet-tracer enable

Debug platform condition mpls <> ingress/egress

I think this also help you to detect mpls packet.

I will give it a try tonight with these interesting commands.

Thanks a lot @MHM Cisco World !

I'm talking about ISR 111X series

Yes, you should be able to achieve this with EPC. You can find instructions as to how to perform EPC here: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/ios-xml/ios/epc/configuration/xe-16-6/epc-xe-16-6-book.pdf

Not sure if EPC works with Ethernet frames that transports IPv4/IPv6 payload only.
