Inter-AS between public and private AS

Hi there,

I'm searching some solution regarding configuration on Inter-AS MPLS/VPN that is currently using private AS. Consider, ISP A is using unique/public AS and ISP B is using private AS.

Can CE in ISP A communicate with CE in ISP B eventhough ISP B is running private AS ? Perhaps can be considered as mpls/vpn private peering or else?

BTW, can it be done?

thank you very much.

If you use private addresses in the MPLS VPN core, you need to ensure somehow that the PE CE links will not conflict with the customers IP addresses (most likely private as well).

If you can manage to do that the Inter-AS part shouldn't be a problem since one provider uses a private address scheme and the other one a public address scheme, which means that they're won't be any addressing conflict between the two cores.

Hope this helps,

Hi Hritter,

Thanks for the info.BTW, which configuration or templates should I use for this kind of implementation?Perhaps some links?

thanks in advance.

You would implement this as a regular Inter-AS implementation, except the you need to take in consideration the restrictions I mentioned previously.

My preference for InterAS is to use IPv4 + labels. For more information on this technique, please refer to the following document:
