MPLS over LDPv6

Hi everyone,

MPLS over pure IPv6 network used to be one of the Cisco and IETF roadmap to come. Has it been implemented on different Cisco OSes so far and if it has been I would like to know whether L2 & L3 VPNs can operate on this infrastructure efficiently? Is LDPv6 as mature as LDP? I have plans to implement a service provider network using pure MPLS over LDPv6 and use VPLS as a service, so the real world implementation aside from theoretical aspects is one of my primary concerns. Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards,

Hesam

According to the latest IOS-XR configuration guide, the following features are not supported with LDPv6:

  • LDPv6 over TEv4 (traffic engineering)

  • L2VPN/PW (over IPv6 LSPs)

  • L3VPN (over IPv6 LSPs)

  • LDP auto-config for IPv6 IGP/Interfaces

  • LDP ICCP with IPv6 neighbor node

  • Multicast extension to LDP (mLDP) for IPv6 FEC with label binding through IPv4 and IPv6 transport

  • Native IPv4 and IPv6 L3VPN over LDP IPv6 core

  • L2VPN signaling with LDP when the nexthop address is IPv6

  • IPv6 LDP CSC
