Number of VRFs

Hi,

I would like to know the number of VRFs supported on 7300 and 7400 routers. I have heard it is 100 in 7400 series routers.

There is no hard limit on the number of VRF these two devices can handle. Rather, the limit on the # of VRF is determined by many factors such as # of routes per VRF, routing protocol used b/w PE-CE, amount of memory installed on the PE. I had once had a document describing the exact details but can't find it anymore.

I will let you know if I can put my hand on it.

I found the presentation you probably were telling about. It is a presentation from the networkers.

It says the following:

~ 60 - 70 K per VRF

(32K for base VRF control block, other memory such

as CEF, TFIB overhead, IDB's and so on(

~ 800-900 Bytes per Route

(Includes CEF, TFIP, and RIB memors in BGP)

But basically it is dependent on many things as you mentionded.
