3750 Catalyst ownership costs

I am looking for a catalyst switch for a home lab/ 3 apartment scenario
which would allow VLAN's and give me the possibility to learn more about
networking. As an example, I found the following used switch on ebay
(Cisco Catalyst 3750G WS-C3750G-24TS-S1U V02 SFP):
https://www.ebay.de/itm/Cisco-Catalyst-3750G-WS-C3750G-24TS-S1U-V02-SFP-gigabit-rackmounts-inc-VAT/182872146608?hash=item2a940782b0:g:kmkAAOSwonBZ-wLZ

What is not exactly clear to me is whether there are additional/yearly
costs associated with owning such a switch - could someone please comment ?

You don't have Cisco support for anything, that's what it means to not have smartnet contract.

You can do everything on your own or with help from the community.

Hi @vjekobalas

There's no cost to to owning a Cisco device. You bought  it you own it.

However, if you don't have a smartnet contract and you device crash, you have no support. You can't update it or exchange it is crash.

Could you please clarify - if such a device crashes, is there no way of
resetting / reinstalling the iOS / config file if you don't have the contract ?
I am asking in detail as I would very much like to gain more knowledge
using such a switch, but I just can't afford the contract costs for such "home"
use. If it's really out of the question from a financial perspective to use
such a device, I guess I need to look at the SG series or other brands.
