C3650 update problem. Flash free space issue.

Hello!

I'm try to update WS-C3650-24TS (stack with 2 switches) from 03.07.04E to Denali 16.3.8

That's what i did:

1.Download Denali 16.3.8 from cisco.com

2. Execute software clean command on the stack and delete all unnecessary files.

3. Copy new ios to flash of stack master

4. Execute command software expand file <new ios> 

Flash-2

Have a free space issue problem with one of flash.

Software install command have a same problem.

After that i checked content of both flash I noticed one moment.

Both of flash have a same content(except for one folder):

flash drives have the same total size, same file set with same size BUT different size of free space.

Have anybody same problem?

are you running any virtual-instance on switch ? by any chance for testing ?

if not clearn up the sameon flash 2: follow same below proceedure : ( swithc also in budle mode, check bundle mode upgrade, also if possible make to install mode)

I've seen that error message before.
I solved that issue by rebooting the stack and then re-run the same command again.

I resolve my problem.
I'm reboot stack and problem with free space issue on one flash is gone.

Issues in Upgrading IOS on Catalyst 3650 from 03.X.X to 16.X.X Code

If you see space issue even after software clean then you could try below steps which helped me to upgrade Catalyst 3650 from 3.6.10 ver to 16.09.05.

1) Make sure you have existing ios in install mode.

2) Copy the new IOS to flash:

3) Change the boot variable to "flash:cat3k_caa-universalk9.16.09.05.SPA.bin"  - Primary  & flash:packages.conf" - Secondary

4) save the change and reload the switch

5) Now switch will boot up with "Bunddle Mode"

6) No we need to expand the "flash:cat3k_caa-universalk9.16.09.05.SPA.bin" in all the switches one by one

Command: request platform software package install switch 1 file flash:cat3k_caa-universalk9.16.09.05.SPA.bin

7) change the boot variable to new ".conf" file in my case it was ":cat3k_caa-universalk9.16.09.05.SPA.conf".

Save and reload the switch

9) Now you can see new IOS is installed in "Install Mode" 

10) Run software clean - "request platform software package clean switch all" . Completed.
