Hey all,
I've been trying to update my Cisco router (it's pretty old and has just been sitting there so I definitely need to update it). I tried using the recommended TFTP way but after installing 2 separate TFTP servers I tried booting into rommon mode and using xmodem to send the cisco IOS bin. However, both time out without starting the install. Any advice on how to troubleshoot this as I have no idea would be really helpful. I've tried:
For TFTP:
-tftp-hpa
-atftp
For xmodem:
-minicom
-Various other terminal emulators
Just a note, I know most people use stuff like hyper terminal but I'm on Linux so that's not an option.
Thanks so much in advance.

What model is the router?
I am a bit suspicious about not working with TFTP.
Have you tried other machines to host the TFTP server?

- Check the tftp server's logs, (if needed turn on debugging), then check if the intended IOS-image is being accessed for transfer to the switch , to start with.
