Cannot Escape from Switch Module in C3945

I am not able to escape from the switch module in our C3945 router using the Alt-Shift-6, x function.

When I 'Alt-Shift-6' and hit the 'x' key, nothing happens.

I had used the 'service-module' command to reach the unit some time back.

When I connect to the router with SSH, I am already at the module's prompt.  So logging out and logging back in did not clear it.  So I can manage that twenty-four port module.  But I cannot escape back to the C3945's command line.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Hi @Fred6,

The correct sequence is: Ctrl-Shift+6, x

Look what is indicated in this link:

http://www.learncisco.net/courses/icnd-1/network-environment-management/remote-devices.html

Suspending and Resuming a Telnet Session. Ctrl+Shift+6

Again, you do not have to kill your sessions if you want to while connected from A to B in this example connect to another device. All you have to do is suspend the session. It will be able to go back to it later. You can do the same with all of the established sessions. You simply issue your Telnet command to connect to the remote device and while there you can suspend the session by using the <Ctrl-Shift+6>x keystroke. The right sequence is <Ctrl-Shift+6>, and then followed by the character X. Simply hit Enter and you will go back to the last active session designated by the asterisk. You can always use resume and then the number of the connection as per the first column there or you can simply type the number of the connection and that will take you back there to that particular connection.

I hope this can help you.

Thanks for the reply.

You are correct.  I tried both Alt-Shift-6 and Ctrl-Shift-6 and then 'x'.  But it still will not let me return to the prompt of the C3945.

I should qualify that I am connected through the console port.

I am connecting to a Devicemaster with telnet.  There is a serial cable between it and the console port.  So I telnet to port 8000 on the Devicemaster (which is the first serial port that I have connected to the C3945).  So it should be the same as connecting directly to the C3945's console port.

I have thought of [and am going to try] connecting directly to the console port from a laptop to see if this clears the issue.

However, I am skeptical it will since I was able to do this in the past.

Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

        One idea

I connected another PC to the console port.

I was able to log in.  I attempted to execute the 'Ctrl-Shift-6' command followed by the 'X'.

There was no response.  I was still in the twenty-four port card.

I did a 'show sessions'.  There were no other sessions showing.

I am going to reboot the router later today and see if that clears this issue.

But if anyone knows what this issue is and how to correct it, I would really appreciate hearing from you.

      Regards,
