Hello guys,
I have a Catalyst 4500-X switch which is having all TenGigabyteEthernet ports. I am using a mix of 10Gbe SFP fibre modules and 1 Gbe SFP Ethernet modules. My issue is some of the ports doesn't comes up if i remove and reconnect the cables (or restart the device which is connected on the port). I may need to remove the SFP module in that port multiple times and reconnect again, then only it comes. Once its up its working fine. Even if i connect my laptop to any of these ports, it doesn't show any connection. Please help. Is that something to configure on that ports or switch... All the ports are in Static access administrative mode and part of a VLAN. If i change the port speed to 1Gbe or 10Gbe according to devices attached will it help ?.. please advice.

Can we have more information about the modules, and SFP information.

Dear Balaji,
Attached the response. The interface status by using "show interfaces" command. Attached them. My issue is main on port 1/1 and port 1/2. Both are in a single VLAN 31. The sttus on these ports shows not connected Line protocol is down. If i remove the SFP and reconnect it , then it starts working.

Hi Sivan
have you tried hard coding the port as its copper GLC-T SFP, that will remove negotiation ?
speed 1000, duplex full
see if that makes a difference
Are these ports directly connected or is there a patch panel in between?
04-01-2019 03:06 AM
Dear Mr.Mark,
These ports are directly connected.

Dear Mr.Balaji & Mark,
I have tried to change the port speed, but that doesn't allow me to change the port speed. i am getting error as below
Harmonic_Switch_A#config t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
Harmonic_Switch_A(config)#interface ten
Harmonic_Switch_A(config)#interface tenGigabitEthernet 1/10
Harmonic_Switch_A(config-if)#speed 1000, duplex full
^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
Harmonic_Switch_A(config-if)#speed 1000
^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
Harmonic_Switch_A(config-if)#
I have tried with CNA, but still its the same returns me an error.
kindly suggest.

Dear Mr.Mark,
Yes those are copper SFPs except the ones connected in ports 11-16 (using 10G fiber)
The commands returns as below

Harmonic_Switch_A>enable
Password:
Harmonic_Switch_A#config t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
Harmonic_Switch_A(config)#interface tenGigabitEthernet 1/10

Hi Mr.Mark,
I really need these ports to be working in 1Gbe... So changing to 100 mbps wont work for me. But i will try this to make sure, my issues are because of that. I am not even able to connect my laptop to these ports. Don't know what i will do. A low priced HP Procurve switch works better than this without any of these mess ups. :(

Full-duplex, Auto-speed, link type is auto, media type is 1000BaseT
This could be the reason, as suggest other post, set the speed 1G, connect the Laptop and test before actually connecting real port.So this confirm port working as expected.

Dear Mr.Balaji,
Currently if i am connecting my laptop it doesn't work on these ports. So let me try this to force for 1G then will let you know. Thank you for your efforts and i will update you soon

Hi Mark,
I am on Version 03.06.03.E. I tried to update the software via CNA GUI, but it returns me a message saying File size is bigger than allowed in TFTP server. So i scared to do as i dont know the right procedure to do. Also its a bit expensive switch. I have the latest ROM bin file, but let me know how to update this.
