Cisco PI 2.2 - NFS Backup needs local storage?

Daniel.Karl

Hello,

i configured Backup via NFS on my Prime but it won't work.

backup-staging-url nfs://10.xxx.xxx.52:/media/Nfs/staging

repository nfsrepo
  url nfs://10.xxx.xxx.52:/media/Nfs/storage

prime/admin# backup mybackup repository nfsrepo

DO NOT press ^C while the backup is in progress
Aborting backup with a ^C may terminate the backup operation or the backup file may be corrupted

Checking for arhivelog cleanup job
  Backup Started at : 11/23/15 11:18:50
ERROR : Cannot proceed with backup as the free space available in oracle fast recovery area (154730 MB) is less than the current database size(177561 MB).
% Internal error: couldn't create backup file

On the NFS-server i can see the "mybackup" folder in the staging directory with a few data inside (just a few kBs)

I thought Backup via NFS won't store data locally? Why does prime complain about not enough disk space?

Thanks!

Best Regards,

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Did you have any luck with this? I'm facing the same problem.

Thanks,

Evan.

We opened a TAC-Case and the employee just became familiar with our PI. He will talk to Oracle employees to extend the fast recovery area. But I got no answer to my question above...

Hi Daniel,

I have also the same problem.....

Did you receive information from TAC ?

Thanks

Sam

Hello Sam,

sorry for the delay, here's the answer from TAC:

During Backup there are two locations where backup is stored.

/opt/backup/ and

/opt/oracle/base/fast_recovery_area/WCS/backupset/

with setting up the staging-url you just mount the first path(/opt/backup) to an external storage.

TAC Engineer said, you can't mount the second one to an external storage!

So even with using NFS to create Backups you need local space.

If you're using Prime on a vm, you can increase the local storage on the host to get a backup.

When you're using Gen1-Appliance you have to connect an external device and mount the space to the fast recovery area.

Daniel

Hello Daniel,

I do also have also the same problem.

As Sam asked, did you already got a solution from TAC?

Regards

Bastian

Hello Bastian,

we will connect an external drive and mount this space to the fast recovery area.  I'll ask again, why PI needs local disk space with NFS-Backup.

Regards

Daniel
