I am thinking about tryingto intergrate Ciscoworks with HP Openview. I already have Ciscoworks and wanted to try the HP Openview Network Node Manager component. I wanted to know has anynon done this and if so is it a smooth interegration and is the HP Node Manager a good addition to CSWI2000?
I would also like to know what the HP Openview NNM gave you that you did not get form CWSI.

Hi Rabalam,
I am have implemented Ciscoworks 2000 with HPOV 7.01 running on the same server in three GM sites. Unfortunately, the intergration with HPOV is not a smooth one. The current release of CW and HP intergratation packages breaks with current version NNM(7.01). And there has not been any updates to when this will be resolved(Called TAC and HP 2 weeks ago). You can find "hacks" that will allow some of the functionality of that the Intergration packages provides on the net (HP OV Forum on OpenView.HP.Com is a good place), but I tried to avoid those type of fixes since it could break a patch or and update in the future.
Here is a list of problems that I am experiencing so far:
1. HP NNM and CW DFM wants control of TCP/UDP port 162. (Planned solution: forcing HP's ovtrapd to listen on 9000 and forcing DFM to forward all snmp traps and DFM events to HP)
2. Cisco Icons do not appear in OV Maps
(Planned solution: none. Seen suggestion for modifying several files that HP uses to map OID's to symbols, but again trying to avoid that.)
3. HP NNM does not poll Cisco-ENV-MIB, thus missing Temp, Power, Hummidity alarm events. (Planned solution: See #1. Let DFM poll and send the events to OV)
4. HP Trapd.conf does not have all the events from Cisco MIB configured. (Planned solution: Merge the trapd.conf (v6.2) in CW with the one in OV)
What I do like about OV is the ability to manage other devices not just Cisco. We are managing servers, netbotz, switches and routers and will be adding UPS to the list. Also like the use of maps to organize symbols for the devices and the abilty to run scripts when an event has occured (DFM can not run scripts automatically and email notifying needs more love from the developers!)
Hope this helps you!

Thanks for your reply I appreciated your info. So from your comment does that mean that if your enviroment is totally Cisco would you still use HP OV?
Also do you find the DFM error message useless.

Actually, I find the messages in DFM more useful than the messages I commonlly recieve in HPOV once tweaked the configurations. What is useless is the messages I recieve the DFM Mail Notifier and the inablilty to make the necessary changes to make it more useful.
In a small to medium size Cisco only environment (no servers or other network device to manage) then CiscoWorks 2000 and probably performance monitoring tools like Solarwinds is all you need. In the Enterprise I would also add NNM and would suggest also looking at the other packages of HPOV.
Hope this helps....

What 'bout the compatability with JavaPlugin (needed for the HPOV 7.01 Webinterface) ?
CWLMS 2.2 uses 1.4.1_02 and HPOV 7.01 uses 1.4.2_01

This is what I got from both Cisco TAC and HP Support, "Upgrade to the next version of LMS." It should be available sometime in February.
