Hello:

I was wondering if Cisco (or anyone else) makes a tool for a company with multiple sites to remotely backup running or startup router and switch configs. It doesn't HAVE to be automated. Any guidance appreciated. Thanks.

CiscoWorks can do it. You may be able to find some open source scripts at: http://cosi-nms.sourceforge.net/

You can find a kiwi cat tools.

There are several tools you could use:

1. CiscoWorks as suggested by Rizwan from Cisco. Between 8 to 20 times the price of Solarwinds (No. 3 below). Heavy on the box.

2. Cisco Network Assistant (CNA). "Heavy on the box" too. As both are Cisco products, support tends to be quite good.

3. Solarwinds.net - Excellent, but expensive. (http://www.solarwinds.net). Reliable.

4. KIWI cat tools (http://www.kiwisyslog.com/cattools2.htm) as suggested by Kadir. Affordable.

5. Cisco Open Source Gear at SF: http://cosi-nms.sourceforge.net/. Free. I must say I find it difficult to use these tools. I have to run a Windows Box at work and these tools don't seem to mesh so well with my environment.

6. No tools! More than free. Use the CLI and a TFTP server to copy config files and IOS images.
