Hi All,

Recently we have installed DCNM(.exe) ver 7.1.1 on client's vm and DCNM monitors 6  N5K devices status etc. However client found that the DCNM vm server CPU loading is very high and even always 100%. And there are 16 vcpu and 8G ram allocated to the vm. It still slow and 100%.

From the windows task, we can find one of java processor always occupies more CPU utilzation and RAM. We tried to reboot the vm and set the virtual memory.

Any suggestion? Try to upgrade to 7.1.2 or open a tac tase?

Regards,

Tira

Hi Tira,

  • Does this DCNM server use a postgres database?  If so, then I'd suggest this doc: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/cloud-systems-management/prime-data-center-network-manager-61/118414-technote-dcnm-00.html

This link is for postgres vacuuming which is a necessary maintenance activity that should be performed every 2 weeks, even when performance is good.

  • Does this DCNM VM share resources with other VMs?  Per the DCNM release notes, a DCNM VM should have dedicated/non-shared resources on it's host.
  • Does DCNM monitor the 5ks as LAN or SAN devices?  If SAN only, then you can disable the LAN services from the windows services window without impacting the monitoring of SAN devices.  Sometimes high cpu utilization is tied only to the LAN or SAN service.

Also, an upgrade most likely will not help.  Poor performance will be carried through after the upgrade.

Thanks,

Eric

HI Tira,

open the task manager on the server and  click "view"  >click "select column"  and check the check box for PID (process Identifier )  and check proceed with your diagnosis.

above will help you with process is taking higu cpu , right now you are seeing java.exe only not the actual process name.

Thanks-

Afroz
