I want to Ping an 891 router from my PC. After I do a hard reset, what if any programming is needed for ping to work? Is the default at IP assigned to a port? Would a Ping work if I connect to a switch port? I say NO to init setup after hard reset. I believe the default IP is 192.168.1.1. and my PC is 192.168.1.10.
Thanks

I am assuming there is no configuration at all on a freshly defaulted 891. I had an 891f and recall my first connections were via console and I used this guide to start working with it, and it worked well.
It does indeed incorporate connecting to the internet but it sets up the vlan and IP and DHCP and such.

Some Cisco devices fresh out of the box do have a default IP address (and may also have a default user ID and password) which would allow ping to the device and would facilitate initial access and configuration via a network connection and not rely on console access. But this question specifies that a hard reset has been done and that " I say NO to init setup after hard reset". In this case I believe that there is no default IP address on any interface and so ping would not be possible.
