DMZ (192.168.10.179) has access to INSIDE (192.168.2.181) but NO ACL?

Hello

So I wanna verify if maybe this is normal function or a misconfiguration on ACL or a missing one but a DMZ host is mounting a [Samba Share] from an INSIDE Host, on completely different Network, but NO ACL Permitting it... Any ideas?

Can you change the access-list DMZ-TO-INSIDE as menfioned in the previous post and also change 

policy-map type inspect DMZ-TO-INSIDE-POLICY
 class type inspect DMZ-TO-INSIDE-CLASS
  inspect

from pass to inspect and try again?

It appears to do the same thing. 192.168.10.179 DMZ, vlan10 - Directly connected to ISR can connect to SSH and Samba on 192.168.2.181 INSIDE, vlan3 - Connected to SG350XG which connects to FPR which then connects to INSIDE on ISR.

I didn't observe it until I started configuring... your zone membership assignments are configured on the wrong interfaces - interface Gi0/1/4 and Gi0/1/5 are L2 interfaces. The correct placement for the zone membership is on the Vlan interfaces:

Well Holy Cow, that did it! The Internet went down once I did that, so I remove 0/0/0 OUTSIDE and added to Dialer 1 OUTSIDE, following suit, hopefully that was correct.

I am curious about something though.. Are my NAT Translations still using my STANDARD [PRE] ZBFW Rules for NETWORK LAN to OUTSIDE WAN Translations?

I will need to figure out how to allow my DMZ to Internet Access, it seems my DMZ-to-OUTSIDE ACL is correct but apparently I have no NAT for it.

I think I know why you don't have any translations going from DMZ to OUTSIDE - add ip nat inside on the interface Vlan 10.

Anything from here on out I will, like believe it or not I really do try, to do on my own before asking questions.

I want to verify ONE last thing... I currently have, and want to keep, a NAT from WAN 207.108.121.179 to LAN [INSIDE] 192.168.3.0 but I also want DMZ 192.168.10.0 to use that WAN IP as well. Is this next config line the accurate type/placement and style of NAT to do so?

ip nat inside source list DMZ-TO-OUTSIDE pool DMZ_OUT overload

DMZ-TO-OUTSIDE is he ACL and DMZ_OUT is just the "pool" 207.108.121.179

This config will work only for traffic originating from INSIDE and/or DMZ which is going to the Internet. The traffic will be specified in the DMZ-TO-OUTSIDE ACL which can be standard, specifying the source address, or extended, specifying source and destination.

If you want the inside hosts to be accessible from the outside on the WAN IP 207.108.121.179, the configuration is a little different:

ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.1.200 443 207.108.121.179 443

ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.10.20 25 207.108.121.179 25

Well, and not to throw a curve ball, nothing really has changed. .. But I have an Email Server stll residing on INSIDE [vlan 2] 192.168.1.180, using Ports 993 and 25.

My ISR Log says this;

I think I got it. it works, so..

I did

permit tcp any 192.168.1.180 0.0.0.0 any eq 25

permit tcp any 192.168.1.180 0.0.0.0 any eq 993

instead of

permit tcp host 192.168.1.180 any eq 25

permit tcp host 192.168.1.180 any eq 993

 

Yes, this is due to the fact that there is an order of the operations that are performed on packets that traverse an interface. The direction of the packet is also important.

In this table, when NAT performs the global to local, or local to global, translation is different in each flow.

Inside-to-Outside Outside-to-Inside
  • If IPSec, then check input access list.
  • decryption - for Cisco Encryption Technology (CET) or IPSec
  • check input access list
  • check input rate limits
  • input accounting
  • redirect to web cache
  • policy routing
  • routing
  • NAT inside to outside (local to global translation)
  • crypto (check map and mark for encryption)
  • check output access list
  • inspect (Context-based Access Control (CBAC))
  • TCP intercept
  • encryption
  • queue
  • If IPSec, then check input access list.
  • decryption - for CET or IPSec
  • check input access list
  • check input rate limits
  • input accounting
  • redirect to web cache
  • NAT outside to inside (global to local translation)
  • policy routing
  • routing
  • crypto (check map and mark for encryption)
  • check output access list
  • inspect CBAC
  • TCP intercept
  • encryption
  • queue

As you can see, in your case (Outside-to-Inside) the NAT operation comes before the CBAC inspect. This means that the outside address is first translated and the firewall feature, ACL, should be constructed using the translated IP addresses.
