How many bytes per ! when transferring using SCP? HTTP?

I am transferring files from a Linux server to my switches for upgrades, etc.  I despise TFTP for many, many reasons and use SCP whenever possible.  But, I'm not sure how many bytes are transferred every time the "progress meter" shows another ! in the terminal.  I'm also not sure how to change that value.  Google has not found any relevant information about this either.

What does the community think?

Hi

Each exclamation mark means a successful transfer of ten packets (1 packet = 512 bytes)

Thanks
Francesco

Thanks!  I was wondering where you found that documented since my Google searches were not working.

Quick note that the equation has been changed in more recent IOS versions to 256KB per ! exclamation mark.

~256KB per '!'

Loading xxxxxxxx.bin from 192.168.159.1 (via FastEthernet0/0):
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[OK - 32738244 bytes]
32738244 / 128 = 255767.53125
