IOS / License Questions - Also SSH

Hey everyone,

I am doing some work for one of our customers and to my surprise, some of their switches do not have SSH enabled and do not have the crypto key generate rsa command available. I have already learned from reading other forum posts that this is because they are not using a k9 image. I am wondering if it was shipped without the k9 image and left that way.

My question is this--is there any licensing restriction preventing me from downloading and installing the appropriate universalk9 image from Cisco Software Central? Does universal imply that it is universally available and does not require purchase of any kind like ipservices or other images? Am I right in thinking that Cisco has actually moved to a model where universal is essentially the only image file available, and special feature sets which used to be contained in separate images are unlocked by installing the appropriate license?

I just want to make sure I'm not going out of bounds by loading up the universalk9 image to support SSH. I don't want it to mess with the entservices license that we have either. I am also a little confused as to the output of the show license all command. Why would the license be listed as Eval sometimes and Permanent other times?

Thanks for any help and insight!

Cheers,

Cameron

just looking at your output, no worries about licensing. Just grab the k9 image for your platform (you can keep it at the same version if you wish). Frankly, I don't know why it is not running a crypto image, but what you speculate it most likely the case.

that is the normal output :

can you post below command output to understand :

show license feature

show license file

show license status

show license summary

If you got only Ipbase License, you need to get IPService License to use SSH or Crypto security.
