Hi
So i am trying to upgrade a IR809 - firmware Version 15.7(3)M2 - and going to ir800-universalk9-bundle.SPA.159-3.M1.bin
I get a timeout
bundle install flash:ir800-universalk9-bundle.SPA.159-3.M1.bin
Installing bundle image: /ir800-universalk9-bundle.SPA.159-3.M1.bin.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
The semaphore timeout period has expired.
anyone seen this problem before?

Hi Yes i made a TAC case out of it.
And you will need to make a on preem installation.
You need to extract the files from "ir800-universalk9-bundle.SPA.159-3.M4.bin" so you get this
ir800-hv.srp.SPA.3.1.21
ir800-ref-gos.img.1.14.0.6
ir800-universalk9-mz.SPA.159-3.M4
MANIFEST
ir800-universalk9-bundle.SPA.159-3.M4.bin
Upload them to the router.
Then change the boot
conf t
no boot system
boot system flash:/ir800-universalk9-mz.SPA.159-3.M4
boot system flash:/ir800-universalk9-mz.SPA.157-3.M2
After this you need access with console
reboot it and break it accessing rommon-1 ,crtl + c to break at boot up.
then boot with the new file
boot flash:ir800-hv.srp.SPA.3.1.21
(this will not install the new firmware)
This will boot in to the new firmware, when booted in preform a install of the new firmware:
bundle install flash:ir800-universalk9-bundle.SPA.159-3.M4.bin
After the reload check if was a succes with
sh platform nvram
Environ setting

- Reboot the device (of course with the existing version) and try again.

- The bundle is rather big , could you remove it from the flash and run the install command , using the bundle from a tftp source ? Also check the logs after the timeout error with show logging. Perhaps there might be additional info.

- I found a bug reference to this , but it is unclear how this related to your current upgrading sequence , one thing you could still verify is the version of the boot-loader/bios and upgrade it first if at all applicable. Check release notes of the intended software version which you were trying to install. If that leads to nothing you will need to contact Cisco TAC about this and forward the errors which you showed here (the output of show logging)

- Referring back to the mentioned bug report :
The fix will be available in the upcoming 15.6(3)M4 (end of January 2018) and the 15.7(3)M1 (end of November 2017) releases
- One possibility would be try to install one of the versions mentioned above first as an intermediate step.
