LMS 3.0.1 Backup failed

Dear All,

I have an issue with LMS backup.

Each time, I have this message :

Backup failed on 2009/3/9 at 23:30:36. REASON: Cannot create or back up tar file.Backup cancelled.

Verify that you have write-access to this directory.

What is really interresting, when all Databases are purged with dbRestoreOrig.pl, Backup seems to be working properly because the folder named "0" was created.

After this first occurence, the backup fails each time.

In attachment log file extract

This is bad. It appears that your Campus Manager installation is damaged. Can you verify that these missing files exist? If not, then you will have to reinstall Campus Manager.

I just reinstalled CM 5.0.4, CM is working properly but when I launch a immediate backup, there is the same error.

At the same time, I check security on the servers, Causers and adm group have a full access on the campus directory.

what is the permission set on 'D:/lms_backup'?

casuser needs full permission on this directory

I'm betting you're seeing a known bug. Do you have the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Cygnus Solutions/Cygwin

Yes, we have.

For info, we are using Cygwin sshd et inetd for our backup system.

This is the problem. You are seeing known bug CSCsc69299:

Symptom:

1) Automatic backup will fail while upgrading from CS3.0 to CS3.0.3.

2) Normal backup will not create the tar archive with the backup files. It will throw the error like,

"Cannot stat: No such file or directory"

Conditions:

The cause might be either of,

1) Third-party OpenSSH for Windows installed on the server.

The cause for this issue is the cygiconv-2.dll and cygwin1.dll are required for the OpenSSH as well. Since the third party DLLs are loaded into memory during startup, the tar cannot load it's own version of DLLs while creating tar archive.

2) The cygwin software installed on the server.

Workaround:

1) Uninstall the third-party Open SSH for Windows and continue upgrade (or backup).

2) Remove the mapping of "/" mount point from the windows registry. (Take a backup of registry before doing this)

The cygnus mount points are at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Cygnus Solutions/Cygwin/mounts v2

and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Cygnus Solutions/Cygwin/mounts v2

Comments

This bug is fixed in LMS 3.1 (CS 3.2).

Many thanks for your support.
