Regarding vrrp and ping

Hi folks,

 

In which case we use interface ip as a virtual ip in vrrp..

And why we have always 4 packet of ping reply..

Hi,

1. use new IP other than interface IPs in VRRP.

2. its de facto.

Hi, you can do that incase you cannot change the old configurations on client side (can be gateway already configured). in that case you can use same ip as vip.

as far as I recall, the virtual router master uses the physical IP address (thereby making it the address owner):

As with regard to the first PING packet being 'lost', it actually is not lost, but rather 'lost' due to the timeout that occurs when the host ARPs for the MAC address.
