I'm getting an error when I try to upgrade the software on any of my Cisco equipment using RME. I have already given Read and Write rights and am able to monitor the devices. I believe I tried using an IOS that has already been downloaded.
It says "Message: 'Device cannot be locked for exclusive write access. '

There are several possible causes for this. Make sure the config for the device isn't locked by the configuration editing programs (Config editor or NetConfig). Also make sure that Ciscoworks can get into the device using telnet or SSH, not just SNMP. Finally, make sure the device has enough space in its flash for both the running and the new image.
I would suggest attempting the upgrade using TFTP and the command line, then you can determine where the problem lies.

I am getting the same message.
I can telnet to the device via Ciscoworks and change configs. I can tftp manually.
I have tried on devices with clear flash and on a device with an old image.
Same error on all devices.

Have you set the correct transport, config protocols for software upgrade? It's in the RME settings page on the drop down list. I had a similiar error when my server was set to use rcp by default. Once I setup tftp & ssh the IOS upgrade worked.

This error indicates a problem with jrm. First, verify that the jrm process is running correctly. If it is in a "Waiting to initialize" state that could indicate a problem with the System Identity User or some other internal communication problem. What version of Common Services do you have? Are you integrated with ACS? What are your CiscoWorks service startup parameters? What are the contents of jrm.log?
