SG500XG [V 03] will not allow me to upgrade Firmware

I am "borrowing" this Switch from a friend [though now I think i know why he was so giving] and for the life of me, it will not upgrade the image.

It currently has 1.4.11.5 and I want to upgrade to the latest.. No matter [latest or not] image I try to upgrade to, it errors out with 'General Error' [if i rename it like image.bin] or 'Copy:illegal software format' [if i leave it named from cisco].

Really not sure the reasoning is. I see many different answers and having to downgrade to upgrade etc, but I am already at the higher image than the one I need to downgrade to. Any suggestions?

Oh, and I can not console into it because it literally has a serial port, whereas I only have connectors to the rj45 style console.

Hello @TheGoob ,

the latest Firmware Version for the SG500X is 1.4.11.5 and the filename is sx500_fw-14115.ros and should be uploaded to the switch as it is.

Be sure to select File type: Firmware Image from the Administration - File Management - Upgrade/Backup Firmware/Language page.

I don't have a SG500X, but I just upgraded a SF300-24 to the latest firmware 1.4.11.5 without any issues.

Finally got it to work. I literally had to reset to factory like 4 times then it finally took it. Geeze I think my house is cursed.
