System performance of LMS 2.6 on Solaris 8

Dear Network Management Forum,

I'have nstalled an LMS 2.6 suite on solaris 8 operative system.

It's manage less than 3000 devices

The hardware is a SunFire V440:

- 4 * processor UltraSPARC IIIi - 1,593 GHz with each 1 MB cache

- 16 GB memory (16 * 1 GB DIMM modules)

- 4 * 73 GB 10000 rpm Ultra320 SCSI

The customer question is:

1) How many browser client connection LMS 2.6 can mangae in the same time on this machine, in order to have a right performance of this server?

2) Which kind of browser client supported by LMS 2.6, use minor system resources?

Thank's a lot!

Kind regards

Leonardo

1) It depends on a couple of factors:

Polling interval of Campus AND number of DFM polled entries, and rate of configuration change in Resource Manager Essentials; the faster your Campus polling, greater number of DFM polled devices, greater number of changes to device configurations; the lower number of responsive clients that can connect to the system.

2) IE 6 , Netscape 7 ...but the most important thing is correct version of Sun on client.

As a comparision I'm running two clusters LMS 2.6 on 4 sun 240's each with 2 1.5GHZ procs, 8 GB RAM and 4 172GB disks for an inventory of just under 5K devices.

There are two files systems that you need to particularly need to pay attention to before you install to lay out your disk:

/var/adm/ and /opt/

ensure you've got lots of space ( like 10 GB for /var/adm and 200 GB /opt to tide your installation through a years worth of service)allocated.
