type 6 encryption

Hi,

Recently our security team has suggested to implement type 6 instead of type 7 for stronger encryption as they are able to decrypt the tacacs key in the running configuration. So want to know if type 6 is dependent on cisco hardware or software or both. Plz advise.

Most device should support depends on how old this hardware software installed.

you can issue command below find out the support:

tacacs-server key [0 | 6 | 7] key-value
