Unique Identifiers/Custom Assets

Is there a way to describe custom asset tag numbers, serials or unique identifiers on cisco equipment other than Location and/or banner modification?

We're wanting to incorporate our own asset numbers into each piece of equipment, but I'm not certain if there's something I'm missing.

What is your desired use of this information?

If it's simply reporting, one could perhaps make a loopback2 interface (or other non-routed common SVI) and build reports with that interface's description featured. The description could have your desired field.

We could do custom reporting in LMS with a custom field, but we would really like to just have a set line within the config that states the actual Asset number that our company provided to us for property tracking.   Again, we thought about placing it within the banner, which would post it up on login, but I wondered what other options may be so that we could possibly track it from within LMS.

I've seen several solutions for random devices which have location ID, but I haven't found any CLI commands for switch location in devices such as 6500 series.
