I had a working ASA 5505 a few months ago (shut it down until recently) and now I'm trying to get my ASA to work and now it only boots into ROMMON and cannot tftp into my tftp server which has the IOS on it. I've tried moving the IOS onto disk0 and it doesn't seem to recognize that either. Has anyone run into this problem and how did you fix it?
Thanks for any help,
Charles Willis

Once long time ago i did open the 5505, and change the RAM inside it.
It works.

Memory was good, but what I finally spotted was someone had the VLAN=untagged and once I put that in there I was able to get tftpdnld to work.

HI Charles,
In ROMMON mode the commands to load the OS using tftp are quite different then when the OS is in the machine. use the following example (remember a lot of commands are case sensitive in ROMMON):
ADDRESS= 192.168.1.1
IMAGE= asa825-51-k8.bin
PORT= G0/0
SERVER= 192.168.1.2
unset GATEWAY
tftpdnld
Once the image downloads you will need to set your IP, a route to the server and then download the image and save it to the flash or disk0 the normal way, verify it is in the disk0 then reboot.
Hope this helps.
