If you want to manage your Firepower from an FMC then do as you said (and then add it to the FMC GUI)....
> configure manager x.x.x.x <key>
If you do not want to manage it from an FMC and you want to manage it locally from ASDM, then you need to revert what you did earlier with this command:
> configure manager delete
A Firepower can only be managed locally or by an FMC, not both.
Hope this helps,
Matt.

Now the Firpower is managed locally, please exit from ASDM and try to login again to see the firepower tab.

Try to launch ASDM from a different computer. If the Firepower menus show up from it, then you may need to delete the Java temporary files on the original computer.

Can you confirm the ASA management interface is connected properly?
Also, please share "show module sfr detail".
The IP address of the module (as reported in that output) is what will appear on the ASA management interface and that address must be reachable from your PC that's running ASDM.

Figure out why your management interface isn't connecting.
Until it does you will not be able to manage the Firepower module.
