I was told to configure firepower for our cisco asa 5525-x and thought i'd have to install a module, but this guy is telling me it's embedded into the firewall.. I haven't found anything on how to configure this though and am confused on how you would configure firepower without a module from the cli. On the download page for the firepower services it shows .tar files https://software.cisco.com/download/home/286271172/type and i guess after i transfer that to the cisco asa I'm not sure what to do from there or if I'm even on the right track.

It is indeed a software module and the Quick Start Guide already linked by @balaji.bandi is the right place to refer to in setting it up.
However it also requires licenses. If you don't already have the required Control license, it's no longer offered since the product is past end-of-sales.
