How to downgrade PIX from v6.0 to v5.3?

Currently I found my network unstable and want to narrow down the problem.

Is that any way to downgrade my PIX from v6.0 to v5.3?

You have to “wr erase” the flash memory, reload to a blank config, load the 5.3 code and then restore one of your old 5.x config backups. What kind of “instability” issues are you having with 6.0? Maybe Cisco has a patch for you.

I'd suggest clearing flash and installing the v5.3 image from monitor mode.

yes I have done it a few times. Use a tftp server and the following commands (assuming a 10.10.10.0/24 network for example)

tftp-server 10.10.10.10 (inside)

copy tftp://10.10.10.10/pix53.bin flash

make sure your tftp server is inside the network in this example.

there is one caveat. When reverting back to 5.3, you might have to remove some of the new commands from the 6.1 version. No big deal. It still works fine.
