Hi,
we will need more info. What error do you get when you try to configure ip address?

the error i get is :
pixname(config)# ip address outside A.B.C.C 255.255.255.0
^
ERROR: % Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
the same error for inside or outside.
Also when i try to type ip address ? there is no outside or inside option from the ? mark.

hi,
what version of PIX os are you running? if you are running version 7.x or 8.x then you need to be in interface configuration i.e.
pixname(config-if)#
