PIX 501 - PDM

I found some PIX 501s on the shelf and was looking to possibly use them.  However, when I try to launch the PDM I get the error, "Your PIX image has a version number 6.3(5).  This requires a newer version of PDM.  Please upgrade PDM image.".

Is it possible to download the PDM software anymore?  I have had no luck finding it on google searches and on Cisco.com.  Given the age of these devices and not knowing what they are licensed for, are they worth messing with?

Thanks.

Hi,

You may download pdm or PIX code here

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/pix

Federico.

Thanks for the link. I had been to that area but was confused on the selection and thought that was just for PIX software and not PDM as well. I was able to get PDM 3 downloaded and installed. Now when I try to launch https, I get a little further than before. It gets through initial PDM sign on and a littler PDM windows appears that shows hostname, device, pdm version, java, etc and also says at the bottom Please do not close this window and another window will launch. Another window never launches.

What I am looking at using this PIX 501 for would be firewall/router for internet access. We provide "public internet" at our sites and are currently using an old Netgear FR114p to provide the internet access and DHCP. We have a VLAN we use for this and the internet traffic for this does not go through our Firewall (asa5520), its just straight out to internet. This netgear has been running great for over 5 years but is starting to require frequent reboots. I believe we may be taxing it more now too. When I found this PIX 501 on the shelf, I thought this might be a good alternative.

Thanks for any advice.

Besides installing PDM in order to work, the correct java version should be installed and http should be enabled and permitted on the PIX.

The PIX has been EoL for a while now, but it does not mean you can configure it and use it (just keep in mind that is no longer supported).

Federico.

Thanks again for the information.  I just updated java on the PC to the latest available but still no avail.

These are the lines of config I have for http.  The PC I am trying from has IP of 192.168.214.5/24

http server enable
http 192.168.214.0 255.255.255.0 inside

I have uploaded the screen I get.  The other window it states will pop up never happens.

Maybe this unit has issues and was put on the shelf for a reason.

What i've experienced with the PDM is that the latest versions of Java won't work with it.

I installed on older version like 1.4.x as i remember.

That solved my problem at the time
