Policy base routing on ASA

Hi all,

Have 2 ISP and need one internal subnet i.e 192.168.101.0/24 should go to Secondary isp for internet access. I have followed the below configuration and achieve what i required but somehow my internal dns (192.168.103.0/24 ) subnet not working for users and i have to use global dns (8.8.8.8) to open website. Can anyone addressed me what im missing.

Please find my below configuration.

access-list inside_access extended permit ip  192.168.101.0 255.255.255.0 any logs

route-map pbr-map permit 10
match ip address inside_access

can you more elaborate ?
what you config in DNS under DHCP pool?

you added config correctly. but point is, your ACL matching any destination traffic which originated from 192.168.101.x network. you need to add deny rule from 192.168.101.x to 192.168.103.0/24 in access list before the allow rule.

Hi there's no DHCP pool and also could you please elaborate what are you trying to say by statement "change DNS in DHCP to point to IP of ASA IN interface IP for subnet 192.168.101.x". 

Dns subnet is in 192.168.103.x.

PBR you config 
access-list inside_access extended permit ip  192.168.101.0 255.255.255.0 any logs <- issue here 

change it to 

access-list inside_access extended 1 deny ip  192.168.101.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.103.0/24
access-list inside_access extended 2 permit ip  192.168.101.0 255.255.255.0 any logs

 

this make traffic from LAN to DNS subnet not PBR to other interface and check the RIB for egress interface.

I have followed your recommendation and perform in stimulation but still my packets goes via PBR gateway for deny packets if i checked in packet tracer. i have use below command

access-list pbr extended deny ip 192.168.101.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.103.0 255.255.255.0 log

 

Add deny statements for the DNS and any other internal network the users need access to before the permit statement you have configured.  you should then be able to use DNS and any other needed internal resources.

Wil try this for sure but have a one query here.

As I said need to pbr only one subnet 192.168.101.x from isp 2 and rest of the subnet goes normally from isp 1 without any pbr. Also i have isp redundancy configured so I think if my isp 2 goes down then my pbr subnet 192.168.101.x would fall back to isp1 and deny statements w.r.t dns would not impact here.

Pls share your valuable thoughts here.

If you are using PBR a fallback to the primary ISP will not be an automatic switchover, you would need to remove the route-map from the interface.  You could set up a script that will do this for you though.
