Upgrade PIX ver 6.3 to 7.x

Is it free to upgrade PIX from version 6.3 to 7.x or do I have to pay for it?

It's free for registered users but you might be in for a surprise since the 7 CLI is quite a bit different so you'll probably find that your configuration doesn't work anymore after the upgrade.

If you have your cisco pix's under a smartnet then yes it is "free" since it is under warranty/managment/whatever you want to call it. If you box does not have a smartnet and is not registered i do not believe you have access to it.

How can I know if my box has smartnet or if it's registered?

I didn't buy it myself..

Is there any contact to refer to? (maybe with s/n of the products)

Maybe the first year came with warranty?
