Hi,

We have a instance of NSO community edition running in our lab. We wanted to try performing OS/firmware upgrade on Cisco routers/switch using NSO. It is learnt that os upgrade service package needs to be installed.

Is it possible to install the os upgrade service on the community edition?

Yes, you can do upgrades.
The NSO binary you have downloaded is the full version and hence not limited in features. Note that the provided NED’s are older, limited versions compared to production NEDs.

Feel free to tell us how it went!

The NEDs in the NSO distribution are not full versions, they are just there to work with some of the examples inside NSO.

However at the site where you download the evaluation NSO there are a few  NEDs that are recent and complete.

There is a service pack that is used by Cisco CX - the Cisco advanced services organzation - to do software upgrades with pre- and post- checks. The NEDs support the basic actions such as scp to copy the software image and generic actions to run show commands or trigger a reload, so the package is built on top of the  NED functionality. You would engage with your account team and Cisco CX if you wanted to try that package out as part of your evaluation. Normally the package is used by CX as part of a project where they would work with you to make it work for your specific requirements.
