I recently purchased two SFP-10G-SR SFP+ modules and I can't seem to get them to work at all in my WS-C3650-PD48-S
I put the SFP into either 10 Gigabit port and I see this on the console:
Jul 1 00:16:18.527: %PLATFORM_PM-6-MODULE_INSERTED: SFP module inserted with interface name Te1/1/4
But the interface never actually comes up. I don't get any additional messages in the log or the console (I had "logging console 7" set). I'm using a Cat6a cable. I see this when I do a "show interface TenGigabitEthernet 1/1/4"
TenGigabitEthernet1/1/4 is down, line protocol is down (notconnect) Hardware is Ten Gigabit Ethernet, address is e4aa.5d99.8834 (bia e4aa.5d99.8834) MTU 1500 bytes, BW 10000000 Kbit/sec, DLY 10 usec, reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255 Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set Keepalive not set Full-duplex, 10Gb/s, link type is auto, media type is SFP-10GBase-SR input flow-control is off, output flow-control is unsupported ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00 Last input never, output never, output hang never Last clearing of "show interface" counters never Input queue: 0/2000/0/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 0 Queueing strategy: fifo Output queue: 0/40 (size/max) 5 minute input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec 5 minute output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec 0 packets input, 884 bytes, 0 no buffer Received 0 broadcasts (0 multicasts) 0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles 1 input errors, 1 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored 0 watchdog, 0 multicast, 0 pause input 0 input packets with dribble condition detected 0 packets output, 0 bytes, 0 underruns 0 output errors, 0 collisions, 1 interface resets 0 unknown protocol drops 0 babbles, 0 late collision, 0 deferred 0 lost carrier, 0 no carrier, 0 pause output 0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out
I've tried both of my SFP modules in both of the 10GB ports and I also get the same result. Any idea's why this won't work? It is listed as a supported module for the 3650: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/10GE_Tx_Matrix.html#_Toc485827262
I've also tried doing what is suggested here
I've tried both my SFP's in both my switches, so I don't think it is a faulty switch or SFP. I've also tried multiple Ethernet cables.
Thanks,
Joshua

SFP-10G-SR
I'm using a Cat6a cable.
I've also tried multiple Ethernet cables.
SFP-10-SR? Cat6A? Ethernet?
How is that possible you were able to use a copper cable into an SFP+ port that will only accept fibre optic cable?

It's not fiber, its copper:

Are you saying that Cisco doesn't support Copper 10GB, only fiber?
My data center provider, only gives me copper connections. What would be the proper way to connect their uplink to the 10GB switch?

Only fibre.
Cisco-supported SFP+ modules can be found HERE.

I have seen Fiberstore / non-Cisco SFP report as -SR from the device inventory despite being -T (copper).
I recommend the command service unsupported-transceiver or determine if at the interface level the media type can be set i.e.
interface Te x/x/x
media-type RJ-45
If the interface does not come up at all, I lean toward it being a physical/cable issue more so than incompatibility. Cisco operating with non-compatible SFP may end up incrementing errors or causing i2c issues but it should not prevent the interface from initially coming up.
