I need to connect a 3745 PRI gateway to a pair of 4507R Core switches. The 3745 has two Fastethernet interfaces. Can I connect one to each core switch for fault tolerance but use a single IP address for the router? Bridging/loopback/????
As far as I know, you need not configure 2 IP adresses. One is configured on the interface which you want to make as active and the other can be configured as stand-by.
What protocol or configuration command are you thinking of when you say one of the fastethernet interfaces can be in a standby mode for the other. I am assuming it is not HSRP since both of these interfaces are physically on the same router.
