hi all,
i'm having a problem here with both the 7960g and 7912g , i'm trying to get them to draw power from a (POE) Linksys switch "SRW224P" but to no avail.
The switch is fine because i managed to draw power using another test phone i have , also the phones are fine because they work normally when powered up with a power adapter.
recently i've read on many tech forums that the G series is not compatible with the 802.3af Standard which doesn't make sense since the manual that comes with the phone claims that this is the required standard for POE connectivity.
thanks in advance.

Joeseph,
The Cisco 7960G & 7912G only support the Cisco "pre-standard" POE. This is often called Cisco "inline" power. These two phone do not support the IEEE standard 802.3af POE.
I have attached links to the two data sheets for each phone.

You might want to look at the 7961G & the 7911G. These are the next generation phones that support both Cisco "inline" power and the 802.3af IEEE standard.

thanks again :)

Joseph,
You might want to look at the Catalyst Express 500 series of switches. The POE version supports both Cisco "inline power" & the IEEE 802.3af Standard
