I performed the hard reset procedure omn a 7961 and it won't load a display. It hangs at the update stage. Can I force it to come up or is it "bricked"?

Hi Chet,
I thought I had done the same thing last week with a 7961 in the lab. It sat for two days with the Bullseye in the bottom left corner of the display. I unplugged it for a bit, re-connected it to CCM and it finished the upgrade and was good to go??
You may want to try the second reset method below as well.
To reset the phone do the following:
Note that the phone must be on a network providing an IP address and TFTP server
address using DHCP and the phone must be powered via external power brick. The
Alternate TFTP setting is erased when using this procedure requiring that the
TFTP server address be provided by a DHCP server to get the phone upgraded.
1) Power off the phone
2) Hold down the '#'.
3) While holding '#', connect an AC adaptor to the phone.
4) Continue to hold '#' until the line buttons blink amber.
5) Release the '#' key.
6) Enter: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 * 0 #
7) The lights should change color from amber to red. The phone is now resetting
to factory defaults.
If the above does not work, try the following:
1) Power off the phone
2) Hold down the '#'.
3) While holding '#', connect an AC adaptor to the phone.
4) Continue to hold '#' until the line buttons blink amber.
5) Release the '#' key.
6) Enter: 3 4 9 1 6 7 2 8 5 0 * #
7) The lights should change color from amber to red. The phone is now resetting
to factory defaults
If all else fails try setting up a sniffer like Wireshark to monitor the upgrade attempts and see where the process is failing. These phones almost always come around eventually :)
Cheers!
Rob

Thanks Rob, I have tried the firmware update procedure that you described and it did not work. I noticed that your instructions say to use a power brick. Can this cause problems when using powered over ethernet? I have also installed Wire shark, but do not know whato to look for or how to set up the scan.
Regards ,Chet
