ATA second port not working

I have an ATA 186. Both ports are registered with CM no problem. CSS and PT are all fine. When I put an analog phone on port one everything is fine. When I put it in to port two, the analog could ring IP phone but get busy tone when user pick up IP Phone. Anything special about port two? I have put another ATA but same problem. CM is 4.1.3 ATA load is the latest SCCP load. Anything else I should look at?

Thanks

Hi, the only limitation I know it's about the codec, ATA 186 does not support two ports that use G.729a codec simultaneously. The G.729 codec can only run on one port at a time. When one port uses G.729, other port uses G.711 and if you have defined regions that only permits G.729 you're not going to be able to establish the second call.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Hi I don'tthink that is the problem because I am calling from the ATA to an IP Phone in the same region using G711 codec and it still busy. Even call going out to PSTN is alse busy.

Vinh,

Did you ever get this resolved? I am having the same problemm

This is caused by the codec configuration on the ATA186. Here is the background -

Cisco DDTS Identification number :

CSCdy55472

ATA works as designed. The SCCP protocol

does not allow dynamically switch G729 codec

resource between 2 different phone lines.

The G729 can only be statically allocated

to either Line 1 and Line 2. The ATA-SCCP

doc contains this information.

The dynamical assignment of G729 resource feature is only available in H323 and SIP versions of the ATA.

More information is here -

LBRCodec

Description

This parameter is used for selecting the low-bit-rate codec. The following

values are valid:

Select G.723.1 as the low-bit-rate codec (available only for connections

0 and 2).

Select G.729A as the low-bit-rate codec (available only for connection 0).

If LBRCodec=0, then both Cisco ATA FXS ports can operate with the following codecs:

Number of codecs=3

Codec[0]=G.7115 -law

Codec[1]=G.711A-law

Codec[2]=G.723.1

If LBRCodec=3, check the setting of bit 21 in the ConnectMode parameter (see the "ConnectMode" section) to determine if G.729 is enabled for the Phone 1 or Phone 2 FXS port.

If LBRCodec=3, then the Phone 1 FXS port can operate with the following codecs:

Number of codecs=4

Codec[0]=G.7115-law

Codec[1]=G.711A-law

Codec[2]=G.729 (only if Bit 21 of the ConnectMode parameter is set to 0)

Codec[3]=G.729A

If LBRCodec=3, then the Phone 2 FXS port can operate with the following codecs:

Number of codecs=3

Codec[0]=G.7115-law

Codec[1]=G.711A-law

Codec[2]=G.729 (only if Bit 21 of the ConnectMode parameter is set to 1)
