One of my customer wants to install Softphone on some of the computer. But that computer will not have any IP phone conencted. Can I use softphone without any IP PHONE associated. Can I use just the extension in call manager.

Sure. We use the Cisco Softphone on laptops. Should work just fine on a desktop. We are in the process of evaluating the VT-GO Softphones also, I saw a demo but haven't received the VT-GO softphones yet. I like the basic concept though. When you define a Cisco Softphone it is defined as a CTI port (which has a system weight of 20). The VT-GO softphone is defined as a 7960 phone and has a system weight of 1. The idea sounds good....I just don't know how well they perform.

The CTI port no longer carries the system weight value of 20. It has changed.
It depends on what version of callmanager you are running. I believe with 3.2.2c the value is 5. Don't qoute me on this. Contact Cisco or your Vendor for specifics.
