I can't seem to call netmeeting from a 1750 with
voice ports. The other way around works fine. I saw
an answer to something similar early on this list and
it was suggested that firewalling was the problem.
It's not the problem here, because there is no
firewalling between the two points. The netmeeting
phone does make a ring sound but the connection
is immediately terminated. I notice that something
similar occurrs when calling another voice port enabled router when the target router doesn't have a reciprocal dialing target setup for the calling phone.

It sounds to me like you have a codec mismatch between the Netmeeting client and the 1750. The reason it works when you call from Netmeeting to the 1750 is that it will accept and correctly handle a call as long as the requested codec is supported by the software.
What codec did you configure on the voip dial-peer on the 1750 pointing to the Netmeeting client? If you have not selected one, try setting one. If bandwidth is not an issue, the best quality is codec g711ulaw on the dial-peer, and on the Netmeeting client, you would go to Audio tab, Advanced, manually set the compression, and choose "CCITT u-Law"

Ahh. that did it. I was using the g723ar63 (Annex 1)
version which didn't match. On that note, is there
any significant difference between the standard g723r63 and the annex 1 version?

Um, I'm not sure about that. You'd have to read the G.723.1 standards in the ITU specs. There are probably at least some slight differences but I do not know what they are.

I don't think that CM/IP Phones support G.723 w/o transcoding (h/w needed). Has anyone found a G.729a codec for Windows/NM that will work w/ CM and IP Phones?
