The release notes for CCM 4.1(3) state that it can be upgraded from CCM 3.3x. The notes say something along the lines of 'upgrade to the latest release of CCM 3.3(X) and upgrade the OS to 2000.2.7sr2 or later.
Licensing aside as I appreciate a new CCM 4.x license is required, what is the best way to upgrade a single CCM 3.3(5) server running OS install 2000.2.4 (upgraded to OS 2000.2.7sr5) to CCM 4.x?
It looks like I can simply run the 4.1(3) upgrade on CCO (ciscocm-ffu.4-1-3.exe) on top of my existing 3.3(5) server as it meets the minimum requirements - MCS7825 with 1GB RAM. Is this the best way of doing it or should I obtain the CCM 4.x CD and rebuild the server from scratch?
This is only a test (LAB) environment but I would rather not destroy a working server and/or end up having to rebuild anyway.
Anyone have any experience of this upgrade from 3.3x to 4.x? Anything I should look out for or that needs fixing post upgrade etc?
Thanks
Andy

Andy,
I think you should be just fine with running the 4.12 upgrade assistant and then run the maintenance upgrade exe (cicscocm-ffu-4-1-3.exe). Your OS versions as well as current CCM version do meet the min. requirements.
Keep a tac case open, in case you run into trouble, you can get hold of a Cisco TAC person immediately.
In a production environment, I am not sure if you still need to buy the 4.x licenses, if the customer already has smartnet (SAU).

Thanks for the reply. It's no big issue if I have to rebuild the server but at the moment I don't have the CCM 4.x CD's. I was just after peoples experiences with the upgrade from 3.3x to 4.x.
Is there anything that is likely NOT to work and anything that will need doing post upgrade?
Thanks
Andy

The CCM 4.x CD's are needed if you are upgrading from CCM 3.3x. Upgrades from 4.x can use the Web download.....
I will wait for the CD's, unless anyone knows a way to create the CD(s) from the WEB download?
Thanks
Andy

Yeah, true you will need the CDs, as its an upgrade from 3.x to 4.x. But if you have a SAU on the product, you can get the CDs for free.

The 1GB memory is for base publisher not running CM service. Cisco recommends 2GB if you run CM service. I ordered the 4.1.2 Cd's in mid May and could not get them. Cisco shipped 4.1.3 which I thought was a mistake so I e-mailed them and they stated that they were no longer shipping 4.1.2 because 4.1.3 had replaced it. I was able to get every CCM version between 3.3.4 and 4.1.3 except 4.1.2. Kind of aggrevating since they just removed 4.1.x from new product hold in March! The other aggrevating thing is that if you are running 3.3.x you have to use their Cd's in order to jump directly to 4.x. The download from CCO is only for upgrading from 4.x to 4.x.
Remember if you do decide to upgrade the production boxes, verify the ability of your remote routers to hold the enormous IOS images cisco recommends for CCM version you chose. Another factor to pay attention to is the IOS/SRST version required on the router (12.3(11)T/3.2 for CCM4.1.2 and 12.3 (14)T/3.2 for CCM4.1.3)

We experienced some issues with VM ports and their respective Line Groups as part of the upgrade from 3.3x to 4.02. If you have a VM integration (Unity in our case) you might need to do some cleanup of your voicemail ports. I seem to recall the upgrade docs hinting at some of that.
If you're running RTMT for monitoring you'll probably get memory warnings with 1GB of RAM, especially if you're running anything else on the box (CSA, CDR, IPCC, etc.). 4.x is RAM hungry.
