I have
-6509 switch with a router blade
-200 IP phones
-6608 gateway on the switch
-Call manager attached on the 6509
Phones gateway and callmanager are on same Vlan
from a design perspective
would i gain any scalability by separating the phones to a Different Vlan?
I haven't found any cisco design doc that compares switching or routing between phones and CCM
I know I am going to add some overhead to the route processor?
thanks

If you are using an MSFC then there is no difference in performance between L2 and L3 switching.
From a scalability perspective I can't think of any reason why you would want to do this. It would simply be a matter of a design decision and how having them in the same VLAN or different VLANs would fit in with the rest of your architecture.

Thanks for your response
now one of my conscerns
is that the 200 phones are going to increase to 3000 at the final phase. Isn't that too much for one Vlan? I know that phones don't generally broadcast other than the initial dhcp request, but 3000 +servers is a lot for a vlan right?
thanks again
