Cisco 2821 to Inter-tel PBX Configuration Problems

Trying to connect a 2821 to a PBX system (T1) card.

Cisco 2821

1. VWIC-2MFT-T1 card for 2 connections to the PBX

2. 2 - WIC-1DSU-T1-V2 for connection to the ISP

3. PVDM2-16 - DSP Module

4. PVDm2-32 - DSP Module

I believe I have a configuration problem with the DSP's & the "voice-card". Getting the following error when in debug mode.

PilotVoice(config)#no dspfarm

PilotVoice(config)#dspfarm

No dsp resources available or allocated; check dsp availability

and allocate voice card(s) for dspfarm

Listed below is my configuration & my "sh diag" log.

Any help would be greatful.

Dspfarm configuration is only required for transcoding or conference bridging. Your 48 DSP channels will be needed for your 2 voice T1s (assuming G711 codec, you will need more for G729).

If you require a DSP farm on this router you will have to add more DSPs.

Are you using a Call Manager, or is this a H323 VOIP transport setup? You config does not show any dial peers or MGCP stuff, but perhaps you just posted a partial?

This will be a VOIP Transport setup, I did'nt setup any dial peers yet because I'm trying to first establish a connection between the router & the PBX system.

On the inter-tel PBX system I'm trying to match the settings on their T-1 card. The settings are

Framing Type - Extended Superframe

Zero Code Suppression - B8ZS

Line Build-Out - Auto

Start Type - Wink

Both controllers are "up" but on the PBX T-1 card I'm getting "Red" blinking error alarm.

Can I remove "DSPFARM" under voice-card ??

This is what I have in a working 2821 with a CAS T1:

voice-card 0

no dspfarm

If you have a red alarm on your PBX you probably have a cabling problem. Is the router showing a yellow remote alarm?

On the VWIC card AL is lite. Using straight RJ45 to RJ45 cables (patch). Did a "sh controller T1" getting the controller is down. A ciso tech ensured me that I could use this type of cable, am I wrong ?

You need a T1 crossover. The 2 pairs used are pins 1,2, and 4,5. Your cable should be wired like this:

1 to 4

2 to 5

4 to 1

5 to 2

An Ethernet crossover will not work.
