Have a client that has 802.3af compliant Nortel baystack switches 5520 model. We are looking at putting in a large number of cisco Phones Cm cluster unity and VG's
Im just curious as to see how other people have set these switches up to provide seperate addressing for Voice and data vlans.
Do they (nortel switches)support voice and data vlans on the one switchport ?
Any help greatly appreciated.

The BayStack 5500 series switches allow you to create 802.1Q port-based VLANs.
These vlans filter on the 802.1Q value of the packet. Tagged packets ingress the switch containing an 802.1Q value. Untagged packets assume the PVID value assigned to the ingressing port as the 802.1Q value.
I have not configured Nortel specifically for VOIP, however the fact that the switchports support 802.1Q suggest that this could be done, and is matter of configuring the IP Phone with the appropriate voice and data vlan.

Hi Allan,
Hope all is well.
Did you get an answer on configing the Nortel 5500's to support a voice vlan?
I have been told that we have to configure the vlan manually on the phone.
Cheers

Phones get thier VLAN info form CDP (correct??). Since Nortel switches don't run CDP I'm guessing VLAN has to be configured manually.
