Font Issues

Hi,

I want to display localized fonts on the DMP browser. I went through the DMS compatibility document at this link http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/video/digital_media_systems/dms_compat.html and found that I can use the font face (Univers OTS). I created a new HTML document using that font face and tested it. In my test, I hosted the HTML file under IIS and instructed the DMP to go to URL.

However, the result was a series of question marks like this: ?????????? showing on the DMP. What is even stranger, if I open the HTML file afterwards and look at the code, I find it too changed to the series of question marks.

I am using a DMP4300G with firmware v5.1.

I appreciate any help with that ASAP.

Thanks

I just noticed that you are using a DMP-4300G.

According to the Compatibility Chart the Arabic Univers OTS is only supported

on the DMP-4400G.

DMS 5.0 on the DMP-4400G introduced additional default Fonts for this DMP

only.  These are;

  • Latin: Albany, regular weight, WGL character set
  • Latin: Verdana, regular weight, WGL character set
  • Traditional Chinese: MHei medium weight, MS Code Page 950
  • Simplified Chinese: MHei medium weight, GB18030 character set
  • Japanese: Hei Sei Square Gothic, MS Code Page 932
  • Arabic: Univers OTS

These fonts are used when the DMP-4400G is used to render a webpage that has

these fonts used.

Do the memory differences with the DMP-4305G & DMP-4300G, it does not

have these additional default fonts. Specifically, any language represented by a

double byte or higher character set is not supported natively on the DMP. This

means that anything outside of the Unicode range of U+0000 to U+007F will

not display correctly.

Thanks

Please upload the HTML file that is experiencing the issue.

Thanks

Sure, here it is.

I cleaned the HTML code and added the HTML directive dir="rtl", now the DMP shows strange characters not question marks like before. The characters looks like those that appear when you use the Wingdings font. The HTML file appears properly when using a PC browser.

I see, that's too bad. I have to upgrade all the players to 4400 just for that. Isn't there any workaround to install this font manually on the player or the memory issue will be a barrier?

I tested directing a DMP4400 to go to the same HTML URL and it did display correctly.

However, on the other hand, if I am going to use  Digital Media designer with the DMP4400 model, which font should I use to show Arabic text properly? I cannot see Univers OTS in the fonts combo box? If I use any font from the available ones, as soon as I save the template, any Arabic text in text boxes turns to question marks.

Thanks
