thanks for help , but i need your help for multicast and the type of multicast which will be used for multicast.
thanks so much

Hello,
Normally the most popular mode that's used in multicast is 'sparse mode' It is used because its far more efficient than dense mode and sparse-dense mode.
But for sparse mode you need a rendezvous point. All your multicast traffic will be pulled instead of pushed.
I'm not sure how the multicast is set up on IPTV, do you normally specify the multicast group address and the RP?
This also means you need to set 'ip pim sparse-mode' command under every single interface on the routers in your network, even vlan interfaces that the multicast traffic needs to traverse.
And you will also need to define 'ip pim RP-address x.x.x.x' on all your routed hops (your routers)
All your switches will need to support IGMP, if they are Cisco switches, it is enabled by default.
If its your first time with multicast, and you want to know a bit more about it, go to YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvbSMBKBZgY
Or
http://stormwind.com/category/multicast
And watch the episodes. It's very good for beginners and it helped me a lot!!
It's funny because I'm also working on IPTV solution too :-)
Hope this helps

Hello
very helpfull , we need your help mr/bilal as you one of the expert for routing . Kindly be informed for me we use SSM multicast , for multicast implementation please answer the below questions:-
1- Do you have a WAN connection?.
2- Do you have mpls between your sites?.
Thank you
please rate if this will help

Hello
if you have a MPLS connection , kindly be informed your configuration will be as the below
1- Multicast over MPLs.
2- Enable multicast for your switches which will connect to your switches.
For SSM multicast :
P2MP = SSM trees
Build trees from any individual source.
Inject everywhere, receive everywhere
-Best join/prune latencies
Q. What is Source Specific Multicast?
A. Source Specific Multicast (SSM) is an extension of IP multicast where datagram traffic is forwarded to receivers from only those multicast sources to which the receivers have explicitly joined. For multicast groups configured for SSM, only source-specific multicast distribution trees (no shared trees) are created.
Q. Should I use PIM Sparse-Mode or Dense-Mode?
A. Cisco recommends PIM Sparse-Mode (PIM-SM). Cisco also recommends PIM-SSM for one-to-many applications and Bidirectional PIM (bidir-PIM) for many-to-many applications.

Hello,
Were these questions for me to answer or jack?
If it was to me, I am going to be doing streaming over LAN & WAN, a mixture of 1Gb and 10Gb links. Maybe in future multicast over MPLS... But not yet.

hi bilal
i need your help to help jack for his design and i need your suggestions as you one of expert in routing. In your case it is so easy as you mentioned above you will use sparse mode and enable ip multicast routing on your switches and enable IGMP.
Thank you

Yes I am happy to assist, I will need to know the basic topology of the network in order to suggest a good design :-)

hi
i have a MPLS connection between my sites , i have 8 buildings . I need to run multicast over my MPLS to allow IPTV over MPLS . I have 400 DMPs (endpoints) over 8 buildings , waiting your help.
Thanks

Hello jack, this is possible, are you running the MPLS service yourself or is it a service provider that carries your MPLS traffic?
If so, you will need to tell them that you will be doing multicast and they will need to enable support for multicast for your specific MPLS VPN to all your sites.
Most MPLS core's are already enabled with Multicast support.
Once we clarify this then we can move forwards.
You can see here on how to enable Multicast in the MPLS core (normally the service provider)
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_2s/feature/guide/fs_mvpn.html#wp1040823
Hope this helps

thanks bilal , i have my own mpls network. We also use SSM multicast . I need to usderstand what are the required configuration for routers , switches to push the traffic , join and leave traffic.
thanks

Hello Jack. Are you using MBGP? So are you using VRF for your MPLS network?
Do you have cisco switches?
IGMP is enabled already by default so we do not need to do anything on the switches. Its just the MPLS core and the CE and PE routers.
