Internet VPN or IPL for IPT?
I would like people's opinion on the follow scenario. Which would you choose in terms of budget then performance?
I know everyone will choose International Private Line (IPL) or leased line for performance. But we have some remote sites that really has a very expensive links.
The current setup is an existing VPN to 8 remote sites using PIX515, 1 site has 501 and 1760-V.
Switches are HP procurve and non-managable.
CallManager is residing in HQ. IP Phones, Softphones and gateways will be placed in some of the remote sites. I'm planning to replace the remote sites with voice gateway that are running with PIX with 2800 router.
But this would be additional cost on existing infrastructure. Can someone point me out some calculations on how much improvement I could get by replacing the PIX with 2800? CEO wants exact figures on the improvement.
Assuming that the Internet Link will have a fixed latency. How do I calculate with the improvement in the 2800 with QoS.
How does other VoIP providers like skype and others handle voice quality over the internet?
Thanks.

As far as I know they (skype) dont do QoS. Other providers like Vonage, implement QoS on a Linksys router. That support is limited qos to be really effective have to be done on both sides of the link, and with this device you can only control one end. PIX doesn't support QoS so it's not voice-rated.
Hope this helps
