During the upgrade to SQL SP1 MDAC 2.6 is automatically installed for you. Same thing with SP2.
I would not focus on the MDAC version too much. Installing the SPs will take care of everything for you.

The reason I'm asking this question is that I did an upgrade from Unity 3.01 to 3.03 for a customer. While doing the upgrade I ran the SP1 for SQL and thought that it installed. The Unity server came back and said that my MDAC version was to old so I went and downloaded the version I needed from Microsoft. The next day the customer checked and noticed that the SP1 for SQL did not install and were upset. But the Unity server seems to be running fine without the SP1 for SQL. Just wondering what is going on here. Do I really need SP1?
Thanks

I am assuming that the SP1 install failed for some reason. It is possible that installing MDAC 2.6 fooled Unity into believing that SP1 was installed.
SP1 is a requirement for Unity 3.0(3) because all system testing was done with it. That does not say that it can't work without it just that is it not supported by Cisco. By suggestion would be to install SQL SP2 and then apply the patched noted in this field alert:
